Questions about the New Berlin Fire Department!

By Ralph Heun

Let's get some answers before more tax dollars are given to Fire Chief Edward Dobernig to spend.

Citizens of New Berlin Thomas Dobernig (Edward's brother) said in his email and flyer that it is his opinion that we have been tragically misinformed. Let's get answers to a few question to see who is misinforming us.

Why did the City take over the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department in 2001?

When the City took over it was said that nothing would change except for the name, which would change to the City of New Berlin Fire Department. Note: Edward L. Dobernig was hired (2001) to replace Chief Ronald Rebatzke the very same year the city "took over". My opinion is the "City" lied and mislead all of us.

In the same email/flyer titled ("Life Safety Alert" which I can only assume Thomas had sent out as no one took credit by addressing on the flyer who was responsible for delivering these to our homes). Thomas Dobernig (Edward's brother) claims the New Berlin Fire Department needs more personal..........  Thomas needs to ask his brother Edward Dobernig why he "fired" or "forced to quit" a large number of the 150 volunteers who gave willingly their time and own money to give emergency care to our citizens. I know I would like to know?

What happened to the EMT-Intermediate service which Andrew Wahl and many of the New Berlin Volunteer EMT/FF's worked so hard to bring to New Berlin's Fire Department?

I am not against the EMT-P service.

We however can not ignore how this came to be and why we will be asked to pay more in taxes in the very near future.  Do not allow Thomas and Edward Dobernig get away  giving us more misleading information.

Let's see if they will continue to misinform us?

More questions and comments to follow on the BIG ticket spending by our "Fire Chief"....

Mr. Gates (New Berlin Dave),

I live in Alderman Ament's district and I have gotten several communications from him on issues important to 7th District residents, via fliers put into my newspaper box, over the past two years (the time period that you mentioned).

In fact, I have gotten communications from him pretty regularly since he was first elected to office.

So, in the future, it would probably be a good idea to look at the information put into your newspaper box more closely.

Mr. Gallagher I'm pleased to see that you’ve come out of the closet and identified yourself this time. Congratulations! I didn't think that you could stoop any lower but referring to Ralph and Keith Huen as the “klan" on this blog is even lower then when Rush Wilkes distributed the flier with your drunk driving arrest mug shot on it. What is your fascination with racial remarks? One would have thought that loosing the last election, because of your racial stereotyping, would have taught you to control your nasty tongue. Your racial remarks have no place in our community. Now we know why you chose to hide behind a fake name. Alderman Dave Ament

Reply to New Berlin Dave's letter to Dave Ament, Alderman district 7.

A public service.

New Berlin Dave

You said you only received about 3 of my 7th District Email Updates? How many have you ever received from any other Aldermen or Mayor? I see why missing out on my informative and insightful comments would be so troublesome to you. You may have been so impressed by my knowledge and common sense that you didn’t notice my invitation to all 7th District residents to sign up to receive my Updates regularly. My 7th District Update Group Members become well informed themselves because I not only email my Newsletters, I also send out the City monthly meeting calendars, the agendas and minutes for those meetings as well as every neighborhood notice that I distribute. This is intended to let people know about issues that could affect their neighborhood and family. I also notify people of my open office hours that I hold the last Saturday of each month.

I would invite every 7th District Resident to sign up as soon as possible. Know that you know about the valuable service I offer I would expect to receive your request to be included soon.

Dear New Berlin Dave,

To be included send me your name, street address, phone number and email address and I will include you in my 7th District Email Group. That way you will not miss any of them. That way when you send in your comments to a blog you can make informed comments.

Milwaukee Journal, March 16, 2001

"I would like to see some more common courtesy," said 50 year old Dave Ament, who is running against Kaminski in the 7th District.

Aging and the rigors of council life must have taken its toll in the past six years. Common Courtesy from Dave and the CRG group seems to be a lost art, or one they had never attained.

Mr. Clark

I would like to ask you about your blog post of 11/9/07. Please tell me when I have not shown "common courtesy" to you?

I looked into it and cannot find a Wesley Clark in New Berlin. I would be interested in knowing if your real name is Wesley Clark and if you really do live in New Berlin. If you are not Wesley Clark would you please share your real name with us?

See we can communicate without being insulting or dishonest.

"If you are not Wesley Clark would you please share your real name with us?"

Yes, it is very difficult to find dirt on you unless you use your real name. So please provide that to Alderman Ament so that he or is friends at NBCRG can submit a "proper" response.

"See we can communicate without being insulting or dishonest."

No you can't. That sentence in itself is insulting and condescending. You just don't get it, do you.

The title of this blog entry is "Questions about the New Berlin Fire Department" if this is correct than why is every post after mine about everything other than it's intended purpose/topic???

It really saddens me to see that all who have posted and read my post feels the topic entry is not important enough to look into or comment on.

What happens when we are asked to vote on a tax increase to "save" the EMT-P program? I would think some NB Citizens would look into the excessive spending that has been done by the New Berlin Fire Department over the last 5 or 6 years before giving more tax dollars to the present Chief and staff to spend.

I would think you would like to have answers before it's to late to find out about the spending and how it came to be that more tax dollars are needed from us to run the FD. Check out the Official New Berlin FD web site history and picture (cars and engines) sections to see a small picture of what spending has been done since the present staff took over the FD. Carefully read the History time line spending before and after the present Chief's arrival.

I really do find it interesting how this subject is being ignored. Our Citizens don't want to see our taxes increase but will put off looking into why the Department needs more money. The first step to saving money is by looking for a new Fire Chief and operating staff to run the Department. Has anyone looked into the salaries of the chief and staff. I do recall reading that the Chief wants to give the volunteers a pay cut to help fund the EMT-P program. Maybe the Chief himself should consider a pay cut?????

I honest hope some citizens will look into this before it's too late.

You know that I posted your fire department Letter. I am afraid I have no control over the subject matter that people who comment.

You will note That I asked for comments about the Fire Department on the end of your original posting.

Commenters usually post directly to the current blog, because they must feel that most observers do not look into the archive sections

If you attended the Fire department committee meeting on Monday you are aware there were a lot of questions that were not answered or were evaded.
