Thank you Jason Richter

By Linda Richter
Thursday, Apr 23 2009, 11:27 AM

My son Jason is an officer in the United States Air Force.

He and his wife are expecting a baby in August.

Jason was recently notified that he will be deployed to Afghanistan in August.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Jason and others who serve in the military for their service to our country, courage and unselfishness.

Our servicemen and women in Iraq or Afghanistan make significant personal sacrifices and risk their lives for our country/ us.

They deserve recognition for that and support.

A Grim Milestone

By Linda Richter
Tuesday, Jan 2 2007, 01:38 AM
On New Years Day, it was reported that the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq had reached 3,000. One article I read also mentioned that 93 American soldiers have committed suicide in Iraq, and more than 20,000 have been wounded.

That was sobering news, indeed.

And, according to The New York Times-------
“The service members who died during this latest period fit an unchanging profile. They were mostly white men from rural areas, soldiers so young they still held fresh memories of high school football heroics and teenage escapades. Many men and women were in Iraq for the second or third time. Some were going on their fourth, fifth or sixth deployment.”
